In
theory, the service life of rolling bearings in centrifugal pumps is
20,000 to 80,000 hours. However, the actual life depends on many factors
- premature bearing failure can lead to costly equipment downtime, and
sometimes even lead to More serious consequences. Jintai spindle bearing experts provide some simple but practical techniques to optimize bearing performance.
Satisfactory spindle bearing life begins with the right choice. From
the beginning, the spindle bearing designer to extend the bearing life
and equipment performance by selecting the right bearing for different
applications. This process takes into account many factors such as load, hardness, bearing life prediction, operating environment, and so on.
Jintai bearings are properly stored
In principle, all spindle bearings should be stored in their original packaging before they are installed. They need to stay in a clean, no moisture, relatively constant temperature environment. Rolling bearings should be kept away from dust, water and corrosive chemicals. Shaking and shaking may permanently damage the mechanical
properties of the bearing, so vibration must be avoided during handling
and storage.
Basically, all bearings must be kept horizontally, as some
heavier bearings may be deformed vertically due to their own weight
after standing for a long time.
Pre-coated
grease (or sealed) spindle bearings require special care because the
grease will change over a long period of time after storage. So when the bearing for the first time, there will be a certain degree of rotation noise. Therefore, the bearing of the shelving time should be based on the principle of first-in first-out to control.
Spindle bearing cleaning
Cleaning is very important for rolling bearings in spindle bearings. The
surface roughness of the bearing ring and the rolling element is
usually 1/10 μm, and such a smooth surface is very sensitive to damage
caused by contaminants. The
lubricating layer between the rotating surfaces is usually 0.2 to 1 μm,
and the particulate impurities larger than the particle size of the
lubricant are subjected to excessive rolling of the rolling elements to
produce local pressure in the bearing steel, which eventually leads to
permanent material fatigue. In addition to this, the external environment of dust particles up to 10 μm in size, will also cause damage to the bearing. Therefore, clean and clean environment for bearing storage and installation is essential.
Fully prepared to install
Spindle bearings should be carefully installed and disassembled with suitable tools. Industry experts estimate that 16% of premature bearing failures are due to improper installation. For a large number of installations (eg in a production plant),
it is usually necessary to strictly control the condition and install
the equipment with a suitable bearing.
However, in the maintenance or replacement work, the environment is varied. Therefore, to ensure the longest bearing life, a comprehensive preparation work is necessary for bearing installation.
First, the relevant documents, such as drawings, maintenance manuals, product brochures, etc. need to be carefully studied. Next,
all bearing elements, such as shafts, locating rings, covers, washers,
etc. must be kept clean and free from contamination. The state of the adjacent parts should also be checked carefully.
Carefully installed and disassembled
Depending
on the application and the spindle bearing size and type, select the
appropriate mounting method (mechanical or hydraulic) and the tool. Here are some basic principles of bearing installation:
1. Do not apply a mounting force to the rolling element, which
can easily lead to partial overload of the rolling element and seat
contact surface, resulting in premature failure of the bearing.
2. Do not use any hard tools (such as hammers, screwdrivers,
etc.) directly knock on the bearing surface, which will lead to the
bearing ring fracture or fragmentation.
3. Follow the guidance of the highly preferred equipment supplier.
Approximately
90% of the rolling bearings have never been removed from their
equipment, usually only a larger bearing will be removed because of the
scheduled preventive maintenance procedures. As
with the installation of a bearing, the bearings must be carefully
prepared, the removal process, to ensure that the adjacent components
such as shaft and sleeve is not damaged. Choose the right method and tool according to the bearing type, size and application.
Designers should note that well-designed bearing positions can greatly
simplify bearing installation and disassembly, thus reducing
maintenance costs.
Spindle bearings are properly lubricated
Lubricants
can isolate metal bearing surfaces (eg rolling elements, bearing rings
and bearing housings), thereby reducing friction, protecting metal parts
and preventing contamination and impurities. A wide variety of lubricants (including grease, oil and solids) are available for different operating conditions. Proper use of lubricants is very important to extend the service life of bearings and equipment.
Due
to the excessive rolling of the spindle bearing rolling parts, the
bearing lubricant is subjected to long mechanical pressure and, in
addition, the chemical properties of the lubricant will change in a high
temperature, wet or contaminated environment. All of which lead to a gradual decline in the quality of lubrication. Therefore, to ensure the longest service life, to regular re-lubrication of the bearing. The lubrication cycle depends on the operating conditions, such as temperature, speed, environment and so on. Only in pre-lubricated or sealed bearings (also known as
"life-lubricated" bearings), bearing life is dependent on lubricant
life.
Lubricants
must be properly stored in accordance with the manufacturer's
instructions, with particular attention to keep the lubricant clean and
free from contamination. Before each use, to carefully check the quality of the lubricant, the
use of obsolete or contaminated lubricant may cause premature failure of
the bearing.
Monitoring and maintenance of spindle bearings
In general, the bearings of the spindle bearings are very reliable, although their life is limited. As with all other important parts of the machine, they should be checked and maintained on a regular basis. The frequency of inspection and maintenance depends on the
importance of individual applications and the operating conditions of
each device.
Due to the key role of bearing, it is recommended to add status monitoring function in its design stage. Important parameters of the machine, such as vibration and noise, can
be continuously monitored and precautions can be made before
unpredictable and costly equipment downtime.
Training - the foundation of good practice
Practice is appropriate, but proper training is the foundation of practice. Well-known bearing manufacturers offer a variety of training courses for business, technical or workshop staff. If the technician has basic knowledge in handling the bearing, then it is possible to avoid major errors. Design
and product development engineers can optimize bearing performance by
maximizing equipment performance and minimizing lifecycle costs.
